It is important to distinguish between the video conference and the livestream:
active participation = video conference via Jitsi for (inter)active speech contributions
passive participation = livestream for passive following of the speech contributions
The problem: In a conventional videoconference the program has to work constantly and send AND receive data from ALL participants of the videoconference. With several hundreds or even thousands of participants or delegates, this requires an extremely large volume of data or bandwidth.
To work around this, the Jitsi video conference can be coupled with the stream in OpenSlides (must be ordered separately):
During the meeting, the active speeches take place in the live video conference "Jitsi".
This live video conference is quasi "filmed" by another internal program (Jibri). This film is divided into individual data packets for the stream and temporarily uploaded piece by piece to OpenSlides and continuously supplemented. This way, the file does not have to be saved on the computer via a complete download. After the end of the video, i.e. the live conference, the data is discarded again.
This procedure is very bandwidth-saving and also works excellently with several thousands of delegates because only delegates with the current active part of the speech are in the active video conference, all others watch the "stream".
